Mission WV has partnered with several other private and public agencies in the state to form a foster care and adoptive family recruitment task force. By bringing together several entities from across the state, we are working to combine efforts to recruit new families who are open to foster parenting and adoption in the state of WV. Additionally, the task force is also working to retain potential foster care or adoptive parents by providing them with support and education.
The work of the task force has so far resulted in the receipt of a foster/adoptive families support group grant that was awarded to Mission WV, Inc by the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. The intention of the program is to provide supportive and financial services to foster/adoptive support networks throughout the state. At this time, MWV is working with 13 foster/adoptive support groups. For more information on the Support Group Assistance program please visit our Web site at www.missionwv.org
Currently, the Recruitment task force is working to plan activities for National Adoption Month, which is November. We are planning to exhibit a photo project at the WV Capital to highlight adoptive families in WV on the Heart Gallery. At a date yet to be determined during the month of November, it is our hope that Governor Manchin will read a proclamation declaring November as Adoption Month in WV. We are also planning to organize a Child Art Project that will display art created by children who are currently in the WV state foster care system.
If you or someone you know is planning an event for National Adoption month, please tell us about it! Also, if you would like to participate in the recruitment task force or have any suggestions/ideas to help promote the recruitment of foster care and adoptive families, we would love to hear from you! The collaborative is open to state and private adoption/foster care providers, foster and adoptive families, social service groups, or any other individual interested in recruiting adoptive and foster families in West Virginia. The Recruitment Task force meets on the third Tuesday from 10am-12pm of every month in Hurricane at the MWV office building.
